Why Winter Tyres?

Don't struggle to get out of your driveway or road.

Winter tyres may look alike to summer tyres but their performance is completely different. They have been specifically designed to work well in temperatures under 7 celsius.

Over the years, vehicle design and technology has developed, so tyres have done the same to cope with heavier, faster vehicles with developed braking systems.

Tyre safety checks are extremely important and should be done on a regular basis. The penalty for having illegal tyres on your vehicle are currently up to a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre.

Knowing your tyres:

  • Replace your tyres when they become worn. They are an extremely important part of your car
  • Badly worn tyre adversely affect the handling of your vehicle, making it dangerous and unpredictable
  • Keep tyres fresh, in good condition, and properly inflated. This is just as important as changing your engine oil

Tyre sizes are usually displayed in a format like this:

  • 185/60/R14
  • The 185 is the width of the tyre, measured in millimetres. This should be matched properly to your wheel width, which is inconveniently measured in inches
  • The 60 refers to the height of the sidewall or the Aspect Ratio
  • The R14 is sometimes displayed as just a number. The "R" stands for radial, but since nearly all tyres are radial some sizes are listed without the R. This number is the inner diameter of the tyre in inches, which should correspond to the diameter of your wheels. This number should be an exact match for proper tyre sizing

Tyre pressure is also a key factor of tyre safety. Ideally check your tyre pressure when the tyres are cold.
